Build Your House of Wellness

Tropical Leaves

Q: What is Build Your House of Wellness™?

A: Build Your House of Wellness™ is an interview series, a living collection of inspiring voices answering one question: “How are you building your house of wellness?"  It's an opportunity for you to share as much or as little as you like. There are no right or wrong answers to this question, and I encourage you to lift up any work you’re doing personally and/or professionally as it aligns with your answer. This can be work you've done and/or work you're doing to help others.

Each of us is the guardian of our own House of Wellness. Our “house” includes but is not limited to our physical environment, yet often begins there. It’s where we live, work, and play – and with whom we share those experiences: our social circle, our support network, our neighborhoods and cities, our places of work. Perhaps most importantly, ourselves. It’s our connection with the divine, and of course, the four walls we call home. Ultimately, our relationship with wellness defines its shape.

Q: Where did the idea come from?

A: I (Jessica Payne) launched Build Your House of Wellness™ in 2020 after surviving a near-fatal 10 cm blood clot.  After this experience, I started to evaluate my relationships with others, myself, and my physical environment, and the "house" I'd built began to emerge.  At the time, I was in the process of earning my WELL AP certification, culminating a nearly two-decade career of health and wellness work through cause marketing, and communications. I understood even more clearly now, the value of sharing stories as a way to help people improve their "house" while I worked on tending my own. This became the lens through which I view my work – and my purpose going forward. At the heart of it is, relationships.

Q: What does participation involve?

A: Participants are interviewed by Jessica (me), and can take the form of the medium most comfortable to you including podcast, blog, etc. You'll join peers from all walks of life, including frontline workers, health and wellness professionals, educators, storytellers, environmental and sustainability experts, builders, realtors, spiritual leaders, creators, social justice advocates, and more.  There's only one rule –  that you speak from the heart.

Q: Where will my interview appear?

A: After completion of your podcast interview, it will be edited (only slightly, for example, to improve audio quality and overall experience) and published on the Effect Change Podcast, and cross-promoted on the Strategy For Impact website and social media. I'll be sure to link to and lift up your business/brand/org and the great work you're doing.

I hope to compile the interviews into a book one day as a resource for people to read and share to spark conversations in their own lives.

Q: Can I promote my interview?

A: Absolutely! Please share it across your network and social media!

Q: What's the objective for Build Your House of Wellness™?

A: This will emerge over time. Ultimately, my hope is that others can see themselves within these shared stories, and feel inspired to share their own – to build their own house and inspire others to do the same.

I hope to invite conversation and the sharing of authentic stories and real lived experiences, resources, and science – and to spark curiosity around what we can do both individually and as a collective to take ownership of our wellness and live better lives.
